Meet the Laska Family

Melissa and Eric Laska are two of the founding members of Downtown Families MPLS. Their love affair with downtown began nearly 10 years ago: First, with Melissa’s purchase of a riverfront condo; next with Eric moving in and selling his South Minneapolis home; and finally with raising their two kids, Peter and Ruby, in that very same condo.

Eric has been active in downtown community leadership through his elected role with the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association (2011-2013) and his current appointment as a community representative on Downtown East Park Committee. He also recently led the downtown community’s advocacy efforts around the need for a community school, which resulted in the scheduled opening of Webster Elementary by Minneapolis Public Schools in the fall of 2015.

Melissa works for the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health and is active in City of Minneapolis’s healthy living initiatives. On weekday evenings and weekends, you’ll see their family walking and biking around the neighborhood, and you’ll probably be greeted with a smile and a wave from at least one of their kiddos.
