Meet the Yadawad Family

Sushanth and Sheela Yadawad live in downtown Minneapolis with their 2-year-old son Yash, whom they describe as “the center of our universe.”

Sushanth works for Honeywell in Golden Valley and Sheela for Lerner Publishing Group here in downtown. It is a busy household with two full time jobs, one part time student and an active toddler.  Last year, both parents were in MBA programs at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Business. Sushanth has since graduated, while Sheela continues her studies.

In the small amount of spare time these busy working parents manage to find, they engage in cricket (a very popular Indian sport), dance and painting. As a family, they make the most of living downtown by taking full advantage of all the activities the area has to offer: sledding in Gold Medal Park, perusing the kids section at the Central Library, taking in the Mill City Farmers Market, or walking the Heritage Trail and Stone Arch Bridge.

The best part? All these activities are a short walk from home!

In the more than five years the Yadawads have lived in Downtown Minneapolis, they have learned to love the lifestyle. Exposing themselves and their son to a diverse demography and keeping the family’s focus on valuing experience, versus excess space and materials, has made the decision to stay quite easy.

The fact that Sheela has a 5-minute bike commute to work every day doesn’t hurt, either.

Would they change anything? Sure…living in a larger condo would allow them to entertain more guests, and having a great school nearby would be wonderful for Yash (and make his parents extremely happy). The first is up to them, but Minneapolis Public Schools is working to deliver the second very soon.
